Aspens broken arm :(

A month ago today (Feb 4th) we had our pony Twix out and the kids wanted to ride her. She was really dirty so we gave her a nice bath and got her all cleaned up and pretty looking then Aspen wanted to ride her. She was just telling us to look, she could ride with no hands when for who knows why Twix decided to do a little side jump and buck and off went Aspen, right off the back and did a little twist and landed on her left arm just right to break it. Luckily Grandma Snyder was here visiting so we were able to leave the kids with her while we took Aspen to the insta care. She broke it right above the wrist and moved it out of place so they had to re set it. I was so glad Dave was there because it was no fun to watch them reset it with Aspen awake and very aware of the pain in her arm!! (had we gone to the ER they would have sedated her) We were lucky that the Dr that happened to be running the insta care that day was an orthopedist so he could do it right there. They reset it and re x-rayed it and it looked good so they molded a splint to the right shape that went all the way to her arm pit to hold it in place for 2 weeks. It was really sore so the Dr. gave us some prescription Tylenol with codeine, so that night we gave her some to help sleep, then the next day she broke out in big itchy hives- we found out she is allergic to codeine! :( After a few days she was feeling much better and was getting the hang of doing things one handed.

After having the splint for 2 weeks we took her back in to the Doc for more x rays to make sure it was still in place and a hard cast. Everything looked really good and the broken arm was already healing so they decided to go ahead with the hard cast that is shorter which we were glad for.

Here she is with her pink (she wanted rainbow but they didn't have it) cast all signed.

Thumbs up!!

This is with the splint- the day after she broke it. Emily and her boys were super nice and came to visit and brought her some gifts. She loves her "Polka dot" and has to sleep with her every night! Thanks Emo, Cody, and Austyn.

Trying to be happy about it :)

She doing pretty good now and is getting more independent. She can go potty all by herself now which is nice. If she had to go during school she would go get Kaylee from class to help her go and Kaylee was so nice to help her. She has to have the hard cast on for 4 weeks. We have about 2 1/2 wks left. Its going by pretty fast. Shes a trooper!!

  1. We were having such a fun day until the accident. I'm glad I was there to help. Aspen sure was a trooper and the other kids were good for Grandma while we waited for them to come home.
